The Square: Bendigo's Handmade Market

A nice surprise

The latest issue of Peppermint magazine has a great little feature on Bendigo! It's a great rundown of the wonderful places to shop, eat and visit around town. And we were completely chuffed to find The Square mentioned along with some other great local spots too. Big fat thanks to local writer Katie Krosby for including us. 

If you don't know the magazine, Peppermint is a great read if you're into all things recycled, sustainable, vintage, local and green.

A wonderful autumn market done...

Thanks for joining us at the town hall for some shopping and browsing! It's wonderful to see so many people happily supporting the handmade industry. We had a very busy hall as soon as the doors opened at 10! And it was such a gorgeous, sunny day downtown too. Lots of photos from the day to share with you, will try and get them up in next few days.

Sneak peek: Jedda Robaard

Our very last stallholder preview before market day...

Just look at the pictures below and you can see why the sweet and simple illustrative work of Jedda Robaard made us smile when it hit our inbox! Isn't it gorgeous? Jedda is an artist from Ocean Grove, who'll be tripping up to share her work with us on Saturday. You'll find high quality prints of her work, greeting cards and a small number of originals at her stall.

Sneak peek: The Vintage Baker

A good market needs a stall of yummies, wouldn't you agree? The Vintage Baker will tempt you with some handmade biscuits inspired by childhood memories... like the 'Grandma's Fancy Biscuit Jars:

"When i was young we would visit my Grandma in the Blue Mountains of NSW. I always looked forward to peering into her fancy glass biscuit jars to see what she had to choose from. I realise now that those fancy jars were merely Moccona coffee jars with a silk flower placed in the lid. Some of the biscuits i bake today are inspired by what filled those very jars."

 

Sneak peek: Emerald Green Submarine

Today we've got a lovely new stallholder to share with you...

You'll adore the jewellery range produced by Emerald Green Submarine from Castlemaine. The talent behind these gorgeous wares is Nicole Porrello. This lady is passionate when it comes to colour and design. An interior designer turned jewellery maker, she brings originality and playfulness to her contemporary resin pieces.

Sneak peek: buntyandsars

You'll love this stall on Saturday... seriously love! buntyandsars is a cute range of products, best described by the creator in her own words: 

"buntyandsars is entirely imagined, illustrated and handmade by Emily Van Der Molen in a tiny sunroom at the front of her 1950's family home. It consists of an ever evolving range which reflects upon a childhood filled with drawing, colouring in and and escaping into picture books. A childhood filled with summers spent holidaying at the beach ina caravan. A childhood she wants to share with her children, your children and those children in the hearts of all grown ups!"

Sneak peek: tinniegirl

A big dose of colour and inspiration today from artist Cathy Kirwan, aka Tinniegirl. Cathy's work is defined by her use of colour and layers upon layers of paint to create beautiful and vibrant artworks. The tinniegirl stall on Saturday will be full of prints, cards and a collaborative range of limited edition jewellery.

Cathy says of her artwork "my hope is that not only will people find beauty in my work, but that it will also inspire them to pursue their passions and make their dreams come true."

Sneak peek: Jen Neilsen

There are many crafters around that breathe new life into things that would otherwise be thrown out or discarded. Recycling, upcycling, repurposing, whatever you want to call it, it can yield wonderful results and create new products with function and beauty.

Our stallholder Jen is one such maker... her thing is making old crockery in jewellery! Jen's earrings, brooches, pendants and rings are unique and wearable art from damaged, pre-loved china. With an infinite number of shapes and patterns, each piece has it's own charm and whimsy. 

This recycled crockery is only part of her range, stop by to see the other bits'n'pieces Jen makes!

Sneak peek: The Bear and The Whale

Another of our favourites is returning for the Autumn market... the ever lovely Larissa from The Bear and The Whale, selling her gorgeous children's range. Every product is made with care and love, and beautiful quality too. We're especially chuffed to have her this time around as she'll be launching a new range of groovy kid's shorts and pants too.
